Executive vice president, member of divisional board,
Mercedes-Benz Car Group
Sajjad Khan is leading Mercedes-Benz into the latest battlefront in the auto industry — connected technologies.
Khan, 46, is the architect of Mercedes- Benz’s new intelligent multimedia dashboard, MBUX.
The Mercedes-Benz User Experience is an interface that learns routines and preferences of the driver. MBUX can recognize patterns and predict navigation routes and radio stations based on the time of day.
MBUX uses natural language processing technology that does not require the user to memorize predetermined commands. Using voice control, MBUX can activate and adjust a host of vehicle settings, including interior lighting and temperature controls. MBUX can also comprehend indirect commands.
MBUX debuted in the A-class compact sedan and will populate across the Mercedes-Benz model line over time. Two-thirds of all A-class customers order the high-end version of MBUX.
Khan is charged with keeping Mercedes ahead in the connected-technologies arms race.
Khan began his auto industry career at Daimler in 2001. He was named director of supplier Magna International’s e-car and electronics unit in 2007 and four years later moved to BMW, rising to head of connected drive.
In 2015, Khan rejoined Daimler, where he has led digital vehicle and mobility on the Mercedes-Benz board.
