Nancy Philippart, Ph.D.
General Partner and co-founder,
Dr. Nancy Philippart is general partner and co-founder of BELLE Michigan, an early stage venture fund that invests in women led start-ups. She serves as co-director of the Global Executive Track Doctorate Program at Wayne State University and is adjunct faculty in the College of Engineering and Mike Ilitch School of Business. She consults with new business ventures and is currently on the boards of several technology start-ups.
Dr. Philippart has been an engineer and global business executive for 30 years in the automobile industry. Most recently, she was executive director, GM Accessories, a $1 billion plus General Motors Corporation new venture that helps sell vehicles and grow corporate profits by enabling vehicle personalization at point of sale. She has extensive experience in international management and operations, product development, strategic planning and new venture start-ups.
Dr. Philippart has a Ph.D. in industrial and systems engineering, MA in economics and BS in industrial engineering from Wayne State University and MS in biomedical engineering from Carnegie-Mellon University.
Dr. Philippart is passionate about education and female leadership development. She is an elected official in her community serving as a trustee and former president of the Troy board of education, a 13,500 student K-12 school district. Dr. Philippart is the former board chair and current advisory board member of the Girl Scouts of Southeastern Michigan, a council that supports leadership development of 30,000 K-12 girls in Michigan. She is also a global business e-mentor, mentoring high potential non-American women who work for multi-national Fortune 500 companies, treasurer of the Women Official’s Network board and trustee for the International Women’s Forum - Michigan board. Nancy serves on Wayne State’s College of Engineering Board of Visitors and chairs the Industrial and Systems Engineering Industrial Advisory Board.
Dr. Philippart was recognized by Automotive News as one of the 100 Leading Women in the North American Auto Industry and is a recipient of the YWCA Corporate Woman of Achievement Award. She is one of a few women inducted into Wayne State University’s College of Engineering Hall of Fame and is a fellow of the Engineering Society of Detroit. Dr. Philippart was honored as a 2013 WONder Woman by the Women Official’s Network for her professional and community leadership. She was also one of 15 international fellows in the International Women Forum’s inaugural ‘On The Board’ program focused on helping women procure corporate board seats. She has received numerous recognition and service awards for her work in Girl Scouting and public education.
