WINNER: Computed Tomography (CT) Vehicle Benchmarking System
Caresoft Global Inc.
2019 - PACE Award Winner
What: Benchmarking teardowns done virtually
Innovation: Caresoft has created a fast and low-cost method of gathering competitive data without physically taking apart vehicles. By using CT scans, combined with the company’s proprietary software, a car can be virtually torn down for engineering, cost and manufacturing analysis. The method yields more specific detail — including parts numbers — at less cost than disassembling a vehicle piece by piece and examining each component.
First Customer: Ford
Judge's Citation: Caresoft technicians used high-energy computerized tomography scans and proprietary software to develop detailed 3D images of vehicles. The scans are nondestructive, unlike conventional vehicle teardowns. The Caresoft process distinguishes details such as individual wires, screws and welds, and can distinguish between various materials such as metals and plastic. Detailed images are converted to computer-aided design files that can be transmitted to buyers. Scans can be completed within days and subsystem details are available within a couple of weeks. The detailed breakdown of a vehicle takes four to five months, a significant reduction from the time required for a physical teardown. For a fraction of the cost, in far less time than required for an internal physical teardown, a customer gets a highly detailed analysis together with engineering support from Caresoft.
