What: Compute platform integrates processing for external sensors
Innovation: Aptiv engineers created a compute platform that integrates processing for data collected by multiple sensors used in autonomous vehicles, including cameras, lidar, ultrasonic sensors and safety, body and interior sensors. The automated driving satellite compute platform also is the communication gateway for FlexRay, Bluetooth and other portals.
First Customer: Audi A8
Judge's Citation: Aptiv's groundbreaking multidomain controller, the zFas domain controller, debuted on the Audi A8. By creating a more powerful centralized open electronic control unit platform, Aptiv's innovation dramatically reduces the cost and complexity of individual electronic control units, while significantly increasing the compute power available for autonomous driving and advanced driver assistance systems. The increased capabilities of the Aptiv platform allow automakers to rapidly assimilate third-party innovation with added functionality via software and low-cost sensors/actuators. Since the innovation launched on the 2018 Audi A8, multiple automakers have announced their widespread adoption of the centralized compute architecture pioneered by Aptiv.
