General Manager Ron Redfern on showing employees they are valued
"We love to support our team members by sponsoring them in activities like the MotorCity Rally, an employee hockey team and other sporting teams our employees are involved in. When several team members wanted to host a car show at our dealership this summer, we got behind them and it turned into a very large event with almost every employee getting involved and 400 to 500 in attendance. We also encourage our team to get involved with our charity and community partners. Each year, we invite our team to a special tour of Leader Dogs for the Blind headquarters and participate in their fundraising events."
Redfern on keeping employees engaged
"Our goal is to provide an environment where employees enjoy coming to work and feel appreciated and valued. One of our main attributes is through our team-based culture. Every person is part of a team, where they are encouraged to help each other perform tasks, build relationships and work toward our unified goal of providing customers the best experience they have ever had from any car dealership. Our pay plans are designed to unite our team. We have team-building events where we can have fun together. Past events include a murder mystery, golf scrambles and dinners."
Redfern on how to keep employees' morale up when dealing with customers anxious about recalls
"Recalls are a great opportunity to provide a needed service for customers. We make it our mission to get recalls fixed quickly and conveniently for customers. When a recall is announced, we will shift employees from other departments to different roles to help support service and handle the recall. We will increase our loaner vehicle fleet as necessary, making it easier for our team to take care of customers, and will send drivers to customers' houses as needed to swap vehicles. When a recall happens, we embrace it. It pulls us closer together and unites us."
