Arthur Lyter, general sales manager, on building good relations across all departments
"We have people from different departments attend each other's Daily Line Ups to let them know what is going on in other parts of Capitol Toyota. We also have a new Buddy Up program where all employees of the store are paired with a specific salesperson. In this program they help support referrals to their salesperson and in turn receive cash incentives for all sales made by their buddy -- this really encourages cross departmental engagement.
"We have the Capitol World Series Softball Tournament each year with members from all departments. This is our summer highlight and encourages getting to know fellow employees in a nonbusiness setting and we do the same thing in the winter with bowling.
"Communication at our monthly all-employee meetings and informative articles on our employee portal help to grow these great relationships between departments. Another big thing is monthly our GM meets with randomly selected employees from each department for a Pulse of the Dealership lunch. This gives employees an opportunity to talk about issues among departments and how to better work as a team while having the ear of management."
Mandy Romero, human resources manager, on compensation
"We offer two different insurance programs for employees to choose from, paid legal services, eight hours of paid time each year for community service/volunteering and also theft protection. Our sick leave policy has changed to a paid time off program, allowing for more flexibility in using not only vacation time but also sick leave."
