HR Manager Crystal Guzzardo on showing employees that they are valued: "Our employees enjoy the family-oriented activities and benefits provided to them and the fact that the company continuously aims to improve these benefits.
"The annual company picnic is an all-day affair for employees and their families complete with free food, entertainment, amusement rides and games. The annual holiday parties are on a comparable scale, although in banquet style. We've even added photo booths. We provide a holiday ham, turkey, surf and turf, or Italian basket for our employees.
"We partner with a consultant to ensure that our benefits package is premium in nature and practical at the same time. We offer a health plan with no deductible/coinsurance. This top-shelf plan is copay driven. We continuously analyze our benefits plan design behind the scenes by comparing current competitors to reduce costs and enrich coverage.
"Other appreciation efforts include employee discounts, legal referrals and discounts, a scholarship program, employee events at local attractions, and concert, show and game ticket giveaways."
Guzzardo on changes in response to staff requests: "For years, our employees requested that the company consider providing paid sick time. In 2013, we were proud to finally offer paid sick time for full-time employees.
"Another criticism from our employees was the lack of consistent communication. Employees felt out of the loop. As a result, we implemented an electronic communications system to provide uniform communications throughout the organization. Desktop software utilizes the screen saver feature to display company information, announcements and events on every computer. The same content that is displayed through the screen saver is displayed on 42-inch flat-screen TVs in every lunchroom. Employees who have limited access to a computer are provided the same information as those seated at a computer. All employees now receive the same information in real time."
