Niello Volkswagen General Manager Terry Caudle blends traditional values and new technology to keep employees and customers happy.
He follows the golden rule -- making sure to treat every employee the way he'd want to be treated. That means incentive bonuses for staff as well as efforts to make the workplace fun.
"We always have something. We try to make it fun," Caudle said. "Our motto is to sell cars for fun and profit, but you've got to have happy employees and happy customers and eventually you can get your profits."
That's where the new technology comes in -- the dealership is active on Facebook.
The store has nearly 1,000 fans on its Facebook page. The page is updated daily and customers who check it often are sometimes treated to surprise deals.
For instance, the store posted a coupon for a free oil-change promotion on Aug. 30 that was good only for that day. To take advantage of the deal, customers had to print the coupon from Facebook and take it to the store. The coupon required customers to buy an oil change in order to receive their next one free.
In another Facebook-based offer, the dealership's parts center highlighted dashboard covers and heat shields designed to prevent sunlight from overheating or damaging a parked car's interior. Customers could get 10 percent discounts on the items if they mentioned the Facebook post.
