Beth Kirkpatrick, 53
Executive Director, Marketing and Service, EDS GM North America, EDS
Education: B.A., history, University of Michigan
First automotive job: Systems Analyst,
Proudest achievement: "Being part of the team that conceived OnStar and brought it to fruition. That was an idea put forth by EDS and taken to GM, and then it became a joint venture between GM, EDS and Hughes. Ultimately, GM embraced it and owns it, and it is part of GM's portfolio. I was part of the inception, creation and bringing it to where it is today."
On being successful: "I've worked really hard. I've had significant challenges and I've enjoyed meeting them."
On being a woman in the industry: "It hasn't affected me. I guess I'm one of the few people, but that has not been a significant issue with me. I think it's because of my attitude; I've not allowed it to be an issue. I believe we are masters of our own destiny, and that's just another challenge to overcome."
