Most powerful Corvette to date spied on famed German test track?

The dust hasn't settled yet after the July debut of the 1,064-hp Corvette ZR1, and now Chevrolet engineers have been spotted at Germany's famed Nürburgring with what could be the most powerful Corvette yet: the rumored Zora.

The name hasn't been confirmed, though Zora has been repeatedly trademarked by General Motors, and Corvette engineers have hinted at big things to come.

Analysts expect the Zora to pair the ZR1's twin-turbocharged 5.5-liter V-8 engine with the Corvette E-Ray's hybrid system, bolted on the front axle to propel the front wheels.

Using the ZR1's engine setup, there's still space in the center tunnel to slot the E-Ray's 1.1-kilowatt-hour battery pack.

The Vette spied in Germany, with Michigan plates, features the same giant wing and widebody kit as the ZR1 — even extra side-pod intakes to cool the rear brakes. The simple math works out to about 1,224 hp. And with all-wheel drive, this Corvette could rip from 0 to 60 mph in about two seconds.
