Cadillac prices new Celestiq electric sedan around $340,000 before buyers customize design

The new Cadillac Celestiq ultraluxury electric sedan will start as a "blank canvas" priced around $340,000 before buyers add their personal finishes, brand leaders said this week.

Cadillac global CMO Melissa Grady Dias disclosed the starting price in a LinkedIn post and said the brand has seen strong demand for the Celestiq since it was unveiled last year. Cadillac previously had said only that the Celestiq would start in the low $300,000s.

Buyers will be notified starting this week that they can begin the process to design their cars. Each Celestiq will be hand-built at General Motors' Global Technical Center in Warren, Mich., and no two are expected to be alike after buyers customize them to their individual preferences.

"Since its introduction, we've seen extremely high demand for Celestiq," Grady Dias wrote on LinkedIn. "Clients who begin this bespoke journey can personalize their Celestiq and make it a true reflection of their personality — the possibilities are endless."

The price does not include shipping, she wrote. A Cadillac spokesperson told Automotive News that the destination charge will be disclosed later.

Cadillac is in the process of converting a building on the tech center campus into Cadillac House at Vanderbilt, named for designer Suzanne Vanderbilt, who worked on Cadillac vehicles after joining GM Design in 1955. The facility will house a concierge service for Celestiq buyers from around the world to design their vehicles.

The building is nearly complete and will open this summer, the spokesperson said.

Cadillac has not disclosed the number of initial buyers for the Celestiq, which will start with the 2024 model year, the brand said. Buyers will choose a dealership before they finish designing their vehicles, it said.
