Brooke Hubler is leading the family business into the digital age.

When she was 22 and fresh out of New York's Sarah Lawrence College, she was assigned to lead a small internal team developing Hubler Automotive Group's first Web site with searchable inventory.

Eleven years later, she now is general manager of Hubler Chevrolet Inc. in Indianapolis, the largest of the family's 10 Indiana dealerships. And she still takes the point on selecting electronic technology tools to drive growth.

She has restructured the group's Internet marketing strategy and Web site, which includes, an online vehicle negotiation tool. She expanded the group's business development center and writes for the group's

"Brooke is really good at sorting through all the technology and the vendors to pick which ones make the best business sense for us," says John Haines, group director of fixed operations and advertising.

Hubler credits her father and late grandfather for showing her the ropes.

It wasn't always certain she would follow the footsteps of her grandfather, Franklin Hubler, who founded the business, and father, Bradley, who expanded the group and owns four stores with his brother John. She speaks Italian and spent her junior year of college studying in Florence, Italy.

But cars were in her blood. Starting at 13 as a file clerk, she spent her summers in the central office.

Years later, she completed the National Automobile Dealers Association dealership management program and, in 2009 during the Great Recession, took over as general manager of Hubler Chevrolet.

Weathering the recession made her a better manager, Hubler says. "With all we've been through, we all work harder, dig deeper to complete deals."
