Gentex posts bullish Q3 results, shares rise

An earlier version of this story incorrectly quoted the gross margin comparisons year-over-year.Sales and profits increased for mirror and electronics supplier Gentex Corp. in the third quarter despite new international tariffs, and despite softer-than-expected new-vehicle production.Gentex, often viewed as a bellwether auto supplier, released its results Friday, and the performance could be a positive signal for global suppliers due to report third-quarter earnings over the next few weeks."Our launches were very strong in Q3," Neil Boehm, the company's chief technical officer, said during a conference call. "That's a pretty good indication of how your business is going to look next couple of years."Revenue was $460.3 million in the third quarter, up 5 percent from a year ago. Net income increased 23 percent to $111.3 million.Gentex shares gained 7 percent percent to close at $19.93 on Friday. Headwinds in primary markets
