The last weekend of the month can make or break a dealership. It's when automakers typically boost incentives and salespeople have extra motivation to get another vehicle or two off the lot.
But at AutoNation Chevrolet Coral Gables — No. 1 among large dealerships on the 2018 Automotive News list of 100 Best Dealerships To Work For — it also means it's time for the monthly pig roast.
The event, which includes a Latin-style pig roast and paella, is a long-standing tradition at the Miami dealership for employees and customers. It increases the number of visitors to the dealership and helps build community between the store's customers and 111 employees, said Alain Josep, general manager of the dealership. AutoNation Chevrolet Coral Gables is one of about 250 stores owned by AutoNation Inc. of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., the country's largest new-vehicle retailer.
"We have fun with all the employees," said Josep, who began overseeing the store in January. "You will see a lot of team building go on between us because, like they say, 'Employee satisfaction equals customer satisfaction.' "
The pig roast is one of several events AutoNation Chevrolet Coral Gables does to promote a family and team mentality in the store, Josep said. Others include group birthday celebrations, softball and bowling.
All the events, he said, help improve talent acquisition and worker retention and create a comfortable work atmosphere.
