Volunteering to help others in their communities is a favorite activity for employees working at the Best Dealerships To Work For.
The stores on the list frequently tout their community outreach efforts and charitable activities. And 79 percent of the 2018 honorees allow employees additional paid time off to do such volunteer work. That compared with 62 percent for dealerships who applied to Best Dealerships To Work For but didn't make the list.
Getting to spend work time to volunteer to help others is a key perk of the job for many employees.
"We love to give back to our community by volunteering, hosting drives and [doing] various donations throughout the year," said Ashley Greenlee, marketing director at Maguire Automotive Group of Ithaca, N.Y., with two stores on the list.
The amount Maguire employees raise at its frequent fundraisers ranges from $25 to $100,000, she said.
At Capitol Auto Group in Salem, Ore., with three stores on the list, employees get a paid Day of Giving for such activities as volunteering at a school or assembling hygiene kits for underprivileged youth. Capitol Subaru of Salem has sponsored a reading program for the past seven years, and the group raised a record $175,000 for its United Way campaign in 2018.
At AutoNation Toyota Corpus Christi in Texas, an annual fishing tournament helps raise money for the local children's hospital.
Bergstrom Automotive in Wisconsin, with five stores on the list, helps employees stage numerous charitable efforts — toy and coat drives, Make-A-Wish fundraisers and the Drive for the Cure breast cancer research event among them.
