Boylan on changes to recruitment:
"We think long term when recruiting. We have shifted to relying on internal recruiters who better know our business culture. Our recruiters provide us with applicants who have demonstrated successful work experiences. We continue to make use of multiple interviews, interviewers and background screening results."
Boylan on rewarding employees and showing them they are valued:
"Team members receive tenure recognition pins on every fifth anniversary. We host a monthly recognition day that includes special parking spaces, ice cream trucks, game trucks, cakes and games and prizes."
Boylan on helping employees develop a career path:
"We use an annual evaluation to convey to our team members their potential. We provide suggestions and recommendations that will help them succeed in our organization. We then provide training and mentoring to reach their desired career path."
Boylan on making work schedules more balanced or flexible:
"We utilize all our staff to provide shift coverage to allow our team members time with family. Our team members only work one 'bell-to-bell' per week."
Boylan on compensation:
"We moved the minimum wage to exceed the state-mandated minimum wage requirement. Wage increases average 25 cents to $1 per hour based on overall performance, far outpacing our competitors. The same holds true for our commission-based employees. A newly hired sales associate is provided a guaranteed salary for at least 30 days (for retail sales veterans) to a 90-day guarantee (for those new to retail sales). We market this to potential candidates."
