Customer Relations Director Charley Engelfried on changes to recruitment:
"We have looked at using temp agencies more to get a 'trial' period with the prospective employee to see if they are a fit for Capitol Subaru. We are also looking at college interns for summer work and Hispanic radio looking for bilingual staff."
Brian Schindler, director of business development, on rewarding employees and showing them they are valued:
"We have a Believe or Leave chip we give all new employees, and we ask at our monthly birthday meetings if people have their chips on them. If so, they receive an extra $100. We also are doing quarterly coffee/smoothie carts for employee appreciation."
General Manager Alex Casebeer on helping employees develop a career path:
"For entry-level sales, we start them on a salary for 90 days so they can get the feel for the position. Then we look to moving them up into our BDC/Internet department and then looking forward to moving them to finance."
Variable Operations Director Arthur Lyter on making work schedules more balanced or flexible:
"We offer Monday-through-Friday schedules with two shifts, 8 to 5 and 12 to 8, for sales staff. We use part-time employees, which allows us to facilitate the new scheduling."
Alex Casebeer on compensation:
"We offer a monthly $3,000 guarantee to all new people for the first 90 days; this allows us time to train."
