Vice President Roy Mullins on changes to recruitment:
"Realizing that for us to get a higher number of quality team members that we were going to expand our search area, we decided to offer signing bonuses and reimbursement of relocation expenses."
Mullins on rewarding employees and showing them they are valued:
"We give weekend trips of their choice as rewards. We give them lunch parties of their choosing for every special day we can think of. We post their pictures on the group's monthly newsletters."
Mullins on helping employees develop a career path:
"We have periodic interviews to discuss what their ideal career path might be. We discuss the steps that are necessary to keep a track toward those goals and keep them posted when those steps are completed or when the progress is out of alignment. Most of our pay increases are based on completion of these steps, which adds further motivation for our team members to learn and grow."
Mullins on making work schedules more balanced or flexible:
"We offer a rotating schedule that allows our product specialists alternate early and late days. Also, for those that have produced at a certain level, we allow them to set their own schedule."
Mullins on compensation:
"We have switched to a guarantee plus a pay bracket that is based on how many you sell rather than the amount of gross. This brings us more applicants due to the fact that younger prospects have become more hesitant to consider 100 percent commission. This also has been received very well by the customers, knowing that their salesperson is paid based on units as opposed to gross and won't be motivated to beat them up for extra money."
