Katlin Winger, customer relationship management manager, on changes to recruitment:
"In addition to the career section of our website, we have increased our recruiting through social media, hosting job fairs and offering generous referral bonuses to current employees."
Schuh on rewarding employees and showing them they are valued:
"We recognize our top talent by rewarding a salesperson of the month as well as a service consultant of the month; team dinners as a reward for internal contests; employees 'spin the wheel,' which has varying amounts of money from $5 to $200; Indianapolis Colts games; celebrate all accomplishments, birthdays and anniversaries once a month with cake as a store; recognize achievements in our biweekly newsletter."
Winger on helping employees develop a career path:
"We have an online program called the Career Path Tool, which allows employees to monitor their current position/progress and understand the expectations for advancement. The tool is hands-on, so the employee is in control of their advancement and has all the information to continue to grow within our company. We also facilitate career conversations and promotion readiness during their annual reviews."
Internet Sales Director Julie Janssen on making work schedules more balanced or flexible:
"We intentionally hire additional employees in order to allow for a flexible schedule. We schedule split shifts so employees are not working bell to bell. We want all employees to be able to enjoy their time off."
Schuh on compensation:
"New employees are automatically enrolled in our training pay plan in order to help the employees establish themselves in their position and reduce turnover. Once they hit certain requirements and are progressing successfully, they are transferred into their normal pay plan."
