"We offer a referral program that encourages employees to refer people, and they are compensated upon hire, after 90 days and then at one year. Also, we no longer use traditional hiring websites or recruiting agencies and now use college programs, Facebook Jobs, Facebook posts on employee pages and local social media to attract employees. The cost is much less, and the hiring pool is a better fit."

"Monthly award meetings for high producers with certificates and cash spiffs; five-year crystal desk plaques for tenure; birthday and anniversary lunches; Administrative Professionals Day luncheon with spa service; annual holiday party; annual potlucks; weekly Saturday pizzas, monthly company breakfast awards ceremony, monthly barbecues; group baseball games; weekend cruises; karaoke nights; boating excursions."
Gasper on helping employees develop a career path:
"During the interview process, we are asking the right questions to determine the growth capacity of an individual. We find out their skills and goals. Every manager is cross-trained, which lets them develop other skills. If someone is not finding success in an area, we give them the ability to transfer to another department."
Fixed Operations Director Robert Viccica on making work schedules more balanced or flexible:
"Sales and Internet departments are offered a five-day workweek by maintaining a specific rolling average. Sales managers, finance managers, sales and Internet all have an early or a late shift to keep family-work balance. For the service department, because we are open six full days, we offer flex days to accommodate employees. We also allow some technicians to come in at 7 a.m. and leave at 4 p.m. Most dealerships have all the advisers working open-to-close. We have two shifts so they can rotate being home for dinner. All of these changes have improved morale and retention."
Managing Partner Aric Gasper on compensation:
"Instead of commission-based pay, we offer a volume-based pay plan with incentives based on online reviews and customer service scores. If someone is new to the business, we offer them a training pay to take the time to learn and have a stronger foundation."
