Editor David Kushma's column on auto repair personnel statistics ("Technical Tsunami: 2 encouraging approaches for dealing with a shortage of mechanics," April) should have someone concerned — maybe the consumer.
I have spent 30-plus years as a mechanic, and I am now a master tech. The job benefits have been decreasing, drawing less potentially skilled personnel. It's not necessarily a job I would recommend.
I hope this situation leads to a larger discussion, and some changes and innovative action.
