Regarding "Stopping on MPG means falling behind," Sharon Silke Carty, autonews.com, July 31): Wouldn't it be reasonable to see if and how we meet 2020 standards, then institute new standards as feasible? Automobile companies have concerns about meeting arbitrary requirements and providing members of the driving public what they want and need at the same time. If we all switched to electric cars in the very near future, how would we supply the increased demand for electric energy to recharge batteries? We don't need doomsday predictions.
