DALLAS -- Toyota’s new North American IT chief has a wide-ranging background in industries such as gambling, food and razors. Now he’ll try his hand at in the auto space, filling the role left open by his recently promoted new boss.
Manjit Singh on Monday was named Toyota Motor North America’s chief information officer. He also becomes a group vice president. He will report to Zack Hicks, who became the region’s chief digital officer in April.
"We are glad to have Manjit join our information systems leadership team, and feel that his diverse industry background will help Toyota further innovate and enhance the customer voice across our platforms," Hicks said in a statement.
Prior to joining Toyota, Singh was chief information officer at The Clorox Co. Singh also has held similar positions for Las Vegas Sands, Chiquita Brand International, as well as Gillette in Singapore.
Toyota has been investing heavily in recent years in connected-technology systems that harness vehicle and customer data to create new services such as managing car fleets and providing customized insurance policies.
