At age 24, Richard Barker Jr., left, was a parts salesman at Lockport Sales and Service, a Ford dealership in Lockport, La., owned by his father, Richard Barker Sr. Young Barker poses here with other service department employees. He left the store to sell parts for another Ford dealership in Thibodaux, La., but returned to the family business as manager of Terrebonne Motor Co., a Ford outlet in Houma, La., that his father bought in 1941. That dealership, now Terrebonne Ford, celebrated its 100th anniversary last year. It is operated by fourth-generation members of the Barker family, with the fifth generation in training. The family sold the Lockport dealership, which now does business as Lafourche Ford.
