TO THE EDITOR:
Keith Crain’s thoughtful commentary “We need to slow way down” (May 28) really struck a chord with me. He is right about the perils of putting self-driving cars on the road before they are ready and the illogic in exempting self-driving cars from the same rigorous standards through which we put cars and trucks. Likewise, and as someone who has experience in government and as a member of a fourth-generation dealership enterprise, we appreciate his take on the best way to assess the true market for electric vehicles.
Technological advances have transformed our lives in ways great and small, but when it comes to creating safe, reliable vehicles for the road, the ethos “move fast and break things” carries a human cost that we simply cannot afford. Thank you for bringing an insightful, commonsense perspective (a Keith Crain trademark) to this conversation.
