CarMax plans to open 15 stores in the current fiscal year, which began March 1. Of those, 10 will be in smaller markets having populations of 600,000 or less. In the fiscal year just ended, six out of 15 store openings were in smaller markets.
In the fiscal year beginning March 1, 2019, CarMax plans to open between 13 and 16 stores.
In March, CarMax opened a store in Winterville, N.C., serving the Greenville, N.C., market. In this fiscal quarter, it plans to open stores in McKinney, Texas, serving Dallas-Fort Worth, and Jensen Beach, Fla., serving the Port St. Lucie market.
In addition to previously announced planned openings, CarMax said that in the fourth quarter of this fiscal year, ending Feb. 28, 2019, it will open stores in:
• Amherst, N.Y., serving the Buffalo market
• Melbourne, Fla., serving the Palm Bay and Melbourne market
• Montgomery, Ala.
• Vancouver, Wash.
• Kenner, La., serving the New Orleans market.
