Daimler design chief Gorden Wagener has spent the last 20 years overhauling the look of Mercedes-Benz vehicles. But even a designer charged with radical change holds the exterior shapes of some vehicles in the industry sacred.
First off for Wagener — no surprise — is the G class, Mercedes' own military-styled SUV. Mercedes introduced the redesigned G class last week at the Detroit auto show, making sure to keep the iconic boxy exterior for which it is beloved.
But Wagener considers some of the competition to be sacrosanct, too.
