After several rounds of teaser photos and camouflaged shots, Mercedes-Benz officially pulled the covers off the next-gen G class. The iconic SUV, which has morphed from a military vehicle to a high-end luxury ride, had a memorable unveiling with an assist from Arnold Schwarzenegger, Daimler CEO Dieter Zetsche and what's left of Detroit's Michigan Theatre. Here's some initial G-class reaction from the automotive media.
"Naturally, Mercedes-Benz sought to retain as much of the G-Class's visual character as possible. Call the effort a success, because the new G looks just like the old one.
"View the 2019 G-Class and you instantly know what you're looking at. However, it's as though you just got a new and powerful eyeglasses prescription from your optometrist. Everything is just a little bit off, in a good way."
