Subaru Corp. said it will invest $140 million and add 200 jobs to produce the 2019 Ascent at its Lafayette, Ind., plant.
The investment covers a factory expansion, new equipment and tooling to support output of the Ascent, a three-row crossover that will be Subaru's biggest model ever.
Subaru said the investment also covers an expanded paint shop, installation of new, larger carriers and revised workstations.
Ascent production will begin in May and the Lafayette plant will be the sole source of the crossover.
The Ascent was introduced this week at the Los Angeles Auto Show and Subaru officials said they expect annual sales of the crossover to reach 60,000 to 70,000, and possibly 80,000, if production capacity is available.
