Director of Business Development Bryan Holzgen on showing employees they are valued

"We felt that our employees deserve more than a simple thank-you and a pat on the back when doing something special for our customers and for our team. This is why we created special cards titled My Moments. Throughout the year, when a manager sees an employee going above and beyond, the manager will fill out a My Moments card and give it to the employee. Our employees save these cards and use them as raffle tickets at our Christmas party. Each year, our owners raffle away big-screen TVs, cruise-line vacations, laptops, iPads and more."

Holzgen on keeping employees engaged

"We share everything we can with our employees. Our owners and managers communicate to their teams regarding our business goals and the direction we are looking to take our company on a constant basis. Our management staff selects promising employees to take part in weekly management meetings. These featured teammates are not just flies on the wall. They are involved in our discussions regarding processes, employee morale and goal-setting. We believe that by getting their direct input, they feel a shared responsibility of helping us reach our goals."

General Manager Mike Kaffenberger on a successful healthy living program

"In an attempt to discourage unhealthy behavior, we have adopted a smoke- and tobacco-free campus policy. We have seen the number of smoke breaks drop significantly, and productivity has risen as a result."

Kaffenberger on attracting employees

"Being located in a lakeshore town, we have found that our prospective employees, specifically millennials, value time off above all else. In an attempt to attract younger professionals, we have recently implemented a policy giving our sales staff rotating Saturdays off. This has helped us attract a much younger demographic as well as helped to improve the family lives of our longtime sales staff."
