After Hurricane Harvey, there was a flurry of articles warning consumers that flood-damaged cars are going to start showing up on dealership lots. Are used-car shoppers asking dealership personnel about that risk?
Actually, dealership sales staffers are more likely to bring it up, presumably in a proactive effort to assure their customers that their store is guarding against damaged cars.
From Sept. 21 to 23, DealerRater surveyed 4,492 customers who recently visited a dealership for Automotive News. Among the 1,837 who were shopping for a used vehicle, about half said the topic never came up. But when it did, the dealership staffer brought it up almost three times more often than the shopper.
