Subaru of America's crossover-heavy lineup helped the brand to eclipse its previous monthly sales record in August as it continues to ride a white-hot U.S. sales streak.
Subaru sold 63,215 vehicles in August in the U.S., an increase of 4.6 percent from the year-earlier period. The automaker's previous monthly sales record was set in December 2016, when it sold 63,177 vehicles.
"Given the overall auto industry conditions, these sales results point to the continued strength of the Subaru brand," Tom Doll, president of Subaru of America, said in a statement.
August marked Subaru's 69th consecutive month-over-month sales gain, the automaker said.
The Outback remained at the top of the brand's U.S. sales chart, with 20,327 units sold, up 17 percent from last August.
The Crosstrek subcompact crossover, which was redesigned for the 2018 model year and is beginning to arrive at dealerships, posted its best month ever, Subaru said, with 12,823 units sold, an increase of 46 percent.
"Crosstrek easily had its best month ever and we welcome the all-new 2018 model with the introduction of its advertising and marketing campaign in September," Jeff Walters, senior vice president of sales for Subaru, said in the statement.
The Forester, Subaru's second best-selling model, saw U.S. sales drop for the first time this year, falling 21 percent to 15,528 units in August.
Impreza sales remained strong, up 40 percent to 7,462 units while Legacy sales dropped 27 percent to 4,210 units.
Subaru's performance duo of the WRX and WRX STI sold 2,528 units combined, down 21 percent. The low-volume BRZ coupe eked out a gain of 12 percent, good for 337 sales.
