Hyundai learned a lesson on its outgoing Sonata having to do with too much of a good thing.
For the 2015 to 2017 model years, certain trim levels of the Sonata could be optioned with a package that included a panoramic sunroof. Sounds like a lovely way to brighten the cabin, soak up some extra vitamin D and see more of the world around you, right?
Wrong.
The automaker says it was besieged by complaints from customers — primarily in the smile states of the southern, southwestern and western regions of the country — that the roof let in too much light or heat. That's right ... people deliberately living in the sunniest parts of the country didn't want the sun in their Sonata.
Others felt they were upsold the panoramic roof they didn't want because they did want the other features the package included.
So for the freshened 2018 Sonata, the panoramic roof is no more — on any models or any option package. A standard size sunroof does carry over, for those who like a little light in their life.
