After shifting to rotary dial shifters in some of its vehicles, Fiat Chrysler may now shift back.
Along with several other automakers, FCA was hammered last week in Consumer Reports' annual auto brand rankings for the automatic transmission gear selectors. Now, FCA says it is taking another look at the devices.
Consumer Reports docked the scores of 50 vehicles from several brands because of dial shifters that can be confused for other controls or else lack measures to prevent rollaways.
FCA introduced its rotary dial shifter in the 2013 Ram 1500 pickup and later installed it on the Chrysler 200, 300 and Pacifica. But the company released a statement after being called out by the magazine.
"FCA US acknowledges the observations of Consumer Reports and is reviewing its shifter strategy," the company said.
