PSA Group CEO Carlos Tavares said buying Opel would quickly create significant savings for both companies and lift their combined annual sales to as many as 5 million. PSA and Opel's parent, General Motors, spent last week working to win support for a deal from government officials and union leaders, with France's PSA committing to uphold certain job guarantees at Opel but not ruling out some cuts. The companies could announce a deal as soon as this week, according to German newspaper reports.
