WOLFSBURG, Germany -- The Arteon, the new large sedan Volkswagen plans to unveil in March at the Geneva auto show, will be positioned between the Passat-based CC and the luxury Phaeton when it goes on sale in Europe next summer.
"As a completely freestanding car on the modular transverse matrix, it is neither a successor to the CC nor a Phaeton," said Elmar-Marius Licharz, who is in charge of VW's mid- and full-size product line. "It stands right between these two model lines."
VW is evaluating whether to sell the Arteon in the U.S.
The Arteon will have a distinct body with a sporty front and wide stance. Thanks to a hatchback lid hinged onto the roof, it is also a practical car with a large amount of trunk space.
