Beach Boys to perform at Detroit auto show charity preview

The Beach Boys will be in Detroit on Jan. 13 to headline the charity preview of the 2017 Detroit auto show.

The band is a good fit for the event as cars has been a frequent theme of its songs in its 50-plus years, including "Little Deuce Coupe," "409" and "Fun, Fun, Fun."

Organized by the Detroit Auto Dealers Association, the charity preview is the top fundraising event in the region and one of the largest annual single-night fundraisers in the world.

More than 13,000 people donned their finest to attend the 2016 Charity Preview.

This year's event grossed $5.2 million and netted an estimated $4.2 million to local children's charities, the show's organizers said last month. Huey Lewis and the News performed at the event. 

In total, the preview has raised more than $100 million since its inception in 1976, according to organizers.
