The coffin lid has officially closed on the Scion brand, Toyota's attempt to woo younger buyers with funky, spunky cars such as the boxy xB. Last week, this message appeared on Scion's Facebook page:
"Today, after 13 years and nearly 1.2 million owners, Scion closes its doors. Some of our models will continue to live on with the Toyota USA brand, and we would like to thank you for sharing the ride with us. Whichever road you choose to take, we hope it leads to a bright future."
While the name is dead in automotive terms, it is getting a high-profile rebirth of sorts by Donald Trump, real estate mogul and presidential contender.
Last month, Trump Hotels announced that Scion will be used for a new brand of hotels.
"The brand will deliver locally relevant, meaningful and sought-after experiences to those looking for a sense of connection during their travels as well as when they return home," the Trump Organization said.
