Corvette zooms past sports cars in Twitter engagement for July

The Chevrolet Corvette blew past all other sports cars in the Twitter engagement race in July.

The Corvette Stingray was followed by the Ford Mustang, Audi R8, Porsche 911 and Nissan GTR, according to ListenFirst Media, a New York company that analyzes conversations around brands and vehicles on Twitter.

ListenFirst aggregates conversations about manufacturers, their models and their owned engagement -- engagement that’s directly attributable to their Twitter accounts. The company says it then normalizes the stats by the total engagement earned by all of the manufacturers to find the “share of voice” earned by each company to rank them.

The Corvette’s top tweet from Chevy’s U.S. account featured a gray drop-top model. It generated more than 90 retweets and nearly 300 ‘”likes.”

The Mustang’s best tweet for the month showcased the one-of-a-kind “Ole Yeller” iteration that was auctioned off for $295,000 in July to benefit the Experimental Aircraft Association’s youth education programs for aspiring pilots.

The “Ole Yeller” is based on the Shelby GT350, which Ford says is the “most track-ready and road-legal Mustang ever produced.” Its engine churns out 526 hp.

Ford said the “Ole Yeller” pays homage to the P-51D Mustang fighter plane. The July 20 post drew more than 300 retweets.

Audi channeled legendary physicist Isaac Newton in the R8’s top-performing tweet showing off a red R8. The brand used the #wantanR8 hashtag to throw the tweet into an ongoing conversation on the platform.

Audi’s post was retweeted more than 560 times.

    Luxury

BMW tips its cap to the stick-shift enthusiasts in a tweet that gives some advice on what to do when life starts to get a little rough. The top tweet for the 3-series sedan and 4-series coupe, which ListenFirst put together on the leaderboard in first place among luxury cars, tallied more than 170 retweets.

The Audi A4 was the runner-up in engagement among luxury cars. The A4’s most-engaged tweet in July uses a GIF that highlight its automatic-braking technology.

The system is a nice tool to avoid jaywalkers, the tweet explained.

    Exotics

The Lamborghini Aventador led exotic cars in engagement last month.

The tweet garnering the most engagement for the Aventador came from the @Billionaires enthusiast account. The July 30 post of a gray Aventador with orange accents earned more than 580 retweets.

The top five is rounded out by Ferrari’s 458, 488 and F12 Berlinetta and the Bentley Bentayga.

    Brands

Ford paced all brands in engagement for the fourth straight month since Automotive News began following the data in May.

The aforementioned “Ole Yeller” post was Ford’s top tweet for July.

Chevrolet came in second and was trailed by BMW, Toyota and Honda.

Chevrolet’s top tweet capitalizes on the brand’s sponsorship of the Manchester United soccer club. The post earned more than 2,100 retweets.

Content aimed at the Latino audience was impactful for Toyota and Honda.
