Daimler will offer a V-8-powered version of the Mercedes-AMG GLC crossover that will debut in the U.S. next year, company sources say.
The AMG GLC63, with its twin-turbocharged, 4.0-liter V-8, will make 469 hp. A 503-hp GLC63 S version is also a possibility, the sources said.
The GLC63 will be available with the regular crossover body style and as a coupe version."
In the Mercedes-AMG portfolio, it sits above the less powerful AMG GLC43, a model that will arrive in early 2017 in regular and coupe body styles. The 43 version will be fitted with a twin-turbocharged, 362-hp 3.0-liter V-6.
The GLC63, which will be unveiled next spring, will arrive at U.S. dealerships a few months later for the 2018 model year and will be priced starting at around $65,000, the sources said. Its closest competitor will be the 400-hp Porsche Macan Turbo.
Designed by the Mercedes-AMG performance division in Affalterbach, Germany, the AMG GLC63 models will be distinguished from lesser GLC models by large front air intakes, fender extensions and special quad exhaust outlets.
