NADA names Fong to head dealership operations

The National Automobile Dealers Association named Peter Fong, 52, as senior vice president of dealership operations. He replaces John Lyboldt, who left NADA to become president of the Truckload Carriers Association, a representative for North American carriers. Lyboldt has been in the auto industry for more than 35 years.Fong, in his new role, will oversee NADA’s providing of educational and consulting services to member dealerships. Fong said in a statement that he wants to focus on “value-added changes” for dealership services and products.He said he’s particularly interested in training dealerships to use technology to speed transactions that start online and then move into stores. “Digital technology and services will play a key role in the successful adoption of this process industrywide,” Fong said in the statement. He was not immediately available for further comment.The dealership operations department is responsible for the NADA and American Truck Dealer Academy, which studies industry trends and changes; the NADA/ATD 20 Group, a program for sharing best practices and company comparisons; and NADA/ATD University Online, a free, online education and training service for member dealerships. It also oversees the membership and membership resources departments.NADA President Peter Welch said Fong’s previous “hands-on experience” will help move dealerships forward with “innovative educational” training.Before joining NADA on June 1, Fong was chief marketing officer at The Judge Group, a technology consulting, staffing and corporate training firm.Before that, Fong was the Chrysler brand’s CEO when he left the former Chrysler Group in October 2009 after just four months in that post, during a post-bankruptcy period that saw several high-level promotions and departures under CEO Sergio Marchionne.He also worked at Ford Motor Co. for 14 years.After Chrysler and Ford, Fong was president of Carmoza Auto Transport.
