Incentives growing on green cars, TrueCar says

Car buyers can save significant money on fuel-efficient vehicles this month thanks to incentives and government rebates, TrueCar said Monday in a report.Green vehicles from brands including Toyota, Ford and Hyundai are being offered as much as 13 percent off the sticker price, TrueCar said in its monthly “TrueSavings” transaction price report.Three of the five top savings highlighted by TrueCar are for green cars such as the 2016 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid sedan, off 13 percent from the sticker price, the 2016 Toyota Camry Hybrid SE, off 11 percent, and the 2016 Ford C-Max Hybrid SE, off 10 percent.“Sustained low prices for fuel, along with state and federal incentives for plug-in hybrid and all-electric models, has made it more affordable than ever for consumers to go green,” TrueCar Vice President of Industry Insights Eric Lyman said in a statement, pointing to rebates in California.The incentives on green cars come as U.S. new-car sales lag in the face of high demand for pickups, crossovers and SUVs. New-car sales are down 5.3 percent on the year through March to 1.7 million units, following a 2.3 percent decline in 2015.TrueCar said financing offers for the 2016 Toyota Prius, at 0 percent financing for 48 months, and the 2017 Chevrolet Volt, at 2.9 percent financing for 48 months, are among the best in the country. The best lease offers include the 2016 Nissan Altima, at $189 per month for 36 months and a $2,499 down payment, and the 2016 Lexus RX Hybrid AWD, at $559 per month for 36 months and a $3,999 down payment.
