Genesis, Hyundai Motor Co.’s upstart luxury brand, previewed where its expanded sedan lineup is headed with the introduction Wednesday of the New York Concept.
The sleek concept car is powered by a 2.0-liter, direct-injected engine and hybrid-drive system that packs 242 hp. It follows the G90 luxury sedan shown in January at the Detroit auto show.
The concept previews the G70 -- a rival to the BMW 3 series, the top-selling luxury car -- due in 2017, sources say.
The New York Concept, painted in a custom light blue reminiscent of a robin’s egg, features a long hood, thin headlights and taillights and a large grille. Inside, the curved, 21-inch touch-screen display blends in with the instrument cluster to give the interior a somewhat futuristic look.
Hyundai launched the Genesis brand in November, looking to grab a bigger slice of the global luxury market and the fatter profits that come with it.
