NEW YORK -- Buick is offering an extensive freshening of the Encore subcompact crossover for the 2017 model year, bidding to extend the surprising sales success of the brand's top-selling vehicle.
The Encore -- which accounted for 30 percent of Buick’s U.S. sales last year -- will get a new hood and new front fascia, including new LED lights and the same wing-shaped grille element that will debut this summer on the redesigned LaCrosse sedan.
Changes inside are extensive, including a new center stack that replaces the small screen and clutter of hard buttons on the existing Encore with a new tabletlike 8-inch touch screen. The display will feature an improved IntelliLink infotainment system along with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
The Encore has fast become a showroom staple for Buick since going on sale in early 2013, among the first entries in a subcompact crossover segment that is now booming. U.S. sales of the Encore surged 38 percent to 67,549 vehicles last year.
