Manheim, the nation’s largest auction company, will get a little bigger on March 2 when it opens its 80th auction location.
Manheim Cleveland will become the company’s third auction site in Ohio and is part of Manheim’s newly established local & mobile division of auctions and services. Also in Ohio are Manheim Cincinnati, in Hamilton, and Manheim Ohio in Grove City.
In December, Manheim announced that it would realign its 79 physical auction sites into two new divisions, effective Jan. 1.
The company said its smaller sites would be placed under the local & mobile division and would primarily serve small franchise dealers and independent used-car dealers. Sites under the auspices of Manheim’s National Division are charged with expanding services aimed at both commercial customers and dealers, it said.
Counting Manheim Cleveland, 30 Manheim sites will operate under the local & mobile division.
Manheim Cleveland is a three-lane, 2,000 square-foot facility on a seven-acre site. It will offer limited mechanical and reconditioning facilities and post-sale inspections. Approximately 500 vehicles are expected to run through its lanes each week.
The new site will enable Manheim to connect with more buyers and sellers with its other services such as digital auction channels, data analysis, financing, transportation and mobile products.
“We are opening in response to requests from local dealers for an auction that serves the Cleveland market,” said Alan Lang, vice president of Manheim Local & Mobile in a statement.
“This demand coincides with our market intelligence that revealed the Cleveland market is underserved, presenting exciting opportunities for Manheim and dealer clients.”
An independent auction known as Brookpark Auction previously operated at the location. Manheim leases the auction facilities but has not taken ownership of the auction. Its lease began Feb. 1.
Manheim is part of Cox Automotive, a subsidiary of Cox Enterprises.
