Volkswagen's diesel test-rigging scandal has landed on many "worst of" lists for 2015.
But here's one you might not have expected -- it is No. 3 on Mad magazine's "The 20 Dumbest People, Events and Things of 2015," finishing behind only Donald Trump (starring as "The Great Gasbag") and porn-addicted reality TV star Josh Duggar on the list of dubious achievers.
The Mad VW parody -- "The Illicit Engine That Could" -- features a sad little cartoon car that starts to cry at the scary thought of meeting federal emissions standards.
But those tears turn to joy when a clown dressed in a VW technician's lab coat asks, "Have you ever heard of a 'defeat device'?" Later a "pretty blonde doll" whispers to the car: "Do you think you can keep your mouth shut for eight years while we conspire to break the law?"
The little VW diesel replies: "'I think I can. I think I can. I think I can.' And all the toys cheered and cheered, as the blue sky turned to rusty brown."
