The ad, which made its U.S. TV debut over the weekend in conjunction with the Maria Sharapova & Friends tennis event in Los Angeles, was directed by Mark Jenkinson for the U.S. ad agency Cramer-Krasselt.
Boxing trainer Darrell Foster, who worked with actor Will Smith for the 2001 film Ali, trained two body doubles to fight and move like Ali did in his prime.
“It’s a tall task … to try and learn his skill set in this short amount of time,” Foster said in a behind-the-scenes video.
The body doubles’ appearances were digitally altered after filming to resemble Ali, who approved the film’s script.
Filming took place on two continents, with Sharapova’s scenes filmed in Los Angeles, the digital work on the Ali body doubles taking place in New York and backdrops being shot in Budapest, Hungary.
