Volkswagen AG must continue its internal investigation of the diesel emissions scandal. At the same time, it needs to make sure it does not neglect its increasingly restive U.S. dealer network.
It's appropriate to take an internal deep dive to determine which technologies were compromised, how many vehicles are affected globally and how to fix all of them so they fully comply with regional regulations.
But VW cannot desert its dealer body in the meantime. That includes dealers of not just the Volkswagen and Audi brands, but also Porsche or any of VW's stable of brands. The German automaker cannot risk degrading its long-term U.S. future and turning a temporary crisis into a permanent blot.
