WESTFIELD, Mass. -- Retired auto dealer Bob Pion died Nov. 10. He was 88.
Pion's father had owned a dealership in the 1920s and '30s.
Bob Pion began by selling Chevrolets at a Springfield, Mass., dealership. In 1970, he and a partner opened Allen Imports of Springfield, selling MG, Renault and Subaru vehicles. They sold that store, then owned Hampden Dodge in Springfield in 1972-77.
In 1977, Pion bought Chrapek Pontiac in Chicopee, Mass., and changed the name to Bob Pion Pontiac. GMC and Buick were added later.
Pion retired in 1992. His son, Don, now operates Bob Pion Buick-GMC, along with his own sons.
