To the Editor:
Following the publication of your Nov. 30 article entitled “Acrimony lingers as Ford, Toyota go solo in race for hybrid pickups,” I would like to clarify Toyota’s position.
In 2011, in the spirit of mutual learning and respect, our two companies entered into an agreement with the aim of jointly developing a hybrid pickup truck. Despite the short-lived nature of our work together, a great deal of progress was made. To be clear, we do not believe that Ford misappropriated Toyota’s intellectual property or sought to leverage our agreement solely to its own advantage. Toyota views Ford as an honorable partner and an industry leader.
We regret that our stance on this matter in the referenced article was not successfully conveyed.
